I am at level 33. I found that you have to upgrade your community shelter to get my openings for more people. I used the nubucks to get items needed if I didn't have it and coins to pay for new settlers.

Berry trees are found in the decorations tab of your building and requires berries, leafy branches and nubucks and one person if recall correctly. Once you have these drag and drop into any open flat spot in the world. Berries can be found by gathering shrubs and leafy branches are found in the leaves piled around it is luck on how often you get these items so it may take time to aquire them. The nubucks can be gotten multiple ways level up, task rewards, and sometimes the game hut or be bought with money. Once the first one is grown you can interact with it and harvest berries with a small bucket in your tool shed (not consumed) and water in your in your store house. The amount of water needed goes up the more people harvesting in a one to one ratio, so 5 people will require 5 water.

You don't really "use" the objects you make. It took me awhile to figure this out too. The settlers will request things at the Camp Fire (tasks), which you go make at your shops, and once you make an item it goes to your Store House. Then go back to your Camp Fire to give it to the settlers and fulfill the task. The settlers take it out of your store house and "use" it. Each time you fulfill a task, you get a reward. Look at the request at the Camp Fire and you'll see that you will get XP and coins or NuBucks as rewards. Which, in turn, are required to build more items for your community and level up.

I spent nubucks to hurry along the production of a coloniser boat! Then nothing appeared! Where is it and what does it do?!
